More on Facebook and Twitter

bibliofile posted a link to a NY Times article on digital intimacy that makes me understand a little more why Twitter is the big thing. It also mentions "parasocial relationships" which I couldn't help but connect up with fandom, e.g. that otaku who wants to marry Mikuru Asahina.

In other news, I've decided all my Facebooks posts will be haiku. Two so far. And, no, I won't post them here for your concrit.

Just one thing... two syllables in "crackling" or three?

Current Location: in the good chair
Mood: amusedamused
Tune: dryer

PROPER pronuciation says two, however, slang has three syllables

All of my poems are in the common argot so I used three syllables.

Yeah, but if you needed it to be two syllables to fit, you could say it was...

Ahhh, but I wanted three.

I don't make the cut, do I?

Which cut?

You make all my cuts except when I'm looking for technical help.

Bwo-hoo-hoo, the kitty cat kutz!

I thought you knew everything.

One reason that I'm such a terrible poet is that my accent makes me count syllables wrong. girl = grr-ull, whirlwind = whirr-ull-wind

For me, it's definitely crack-ul-ling. Thus, the answer is probably two.

I'm a bad poet because I can't tell meter. Fortunately, haiku have different rules. Not that this means my haiku are good but meter isn't the issue.

Now you're just being mean.

Having to parse Greek before my 11 PM to 7 AM shift. Neat but annoyng.

Tell me more!

Yeah, meter is the other reason I'm a terrible poet.

Depends, pork rinds or log cinders?

You are on your own there.

hm, I get the feeling twitering is going to end civilization as we know it or somebody's political career/aspirations - either way it will be a source of constant entertainment :P

Actually, the article says, as near as I can recall, that Twitter will end civilization as we know it by returning us to the days when we knew the same people from birth to death.

I guess it depends on what part of the country your from. I say two.

3 syllables are pronounced according to Webster's

Have now friended you on FB. Feel free to Ignore, though, as other ETHS folks may then find you...

Already belong to an ETHS group so no worries there.

Though I do wonder about the people friending me who I have never actually interacted with. Is there like a group add?

No group adds -- you have to find people individually. It used to be, though, that info about people adding friends would pop up in the news feed. When I saw that a friend had added someone I knew, I'd go and add them, myself.
