OK, This is Freaky

Email I received today:

Hey,

I just found your blog entry: http://ouatic-7.livejournal.com/36601.html and I think you may be of some help to me. I'm contacting you on behalf of M80 & Anchor Bay Entertainment (Manga) regarding the DVD release of Karas. Have you heard? Karas (the crow) is best described as Batman with a Samurai Sword or a Cyber-Punk version of The Crow in 2D/3D animation. Since you mentioned Ghost In The Shell in your blog entry, I thought that you may be interested in helping to promote Karas.

Please let me know if you are interested!

Thanks,
Jacqueline

Of course, the entry in question is an anime meme.

So does that mean that they are conducting advanced searches on LJ for mentions of those two? Ga, hard to believe they'd go to so much trouble - or is it easy to find/contact LJers on a large scale?

Anyway, don't you feel important now! They should offer to send you a free DVD or a gift certificate to a local restuarant, like those old spam-mails used to after you forward this to at least ten of your friends, we will automatically send you a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse...

I replied asking what was involved. Of course, I would never put either Akira or Ghost in the SHell on my list of favorites.

They must be hoping it'll take off if LJers make it sound cool to their friends, like some underground internet phenomenon.

I thought they might be recruiting viewers for a screening using a strategy similar to what was used for CTHD but it's all the same, word of mouth.

Looks like some kind of automated spam mail to me, but I could be wrong. Let us know if they reply. :)

Oh, yeah. It's clearly automated. I only replied hoping I would get free stuff.

*grins* If they give you free stuff, let me know, and I'll start peppering my LJ entries with the titles of random anime series and movies. Maybe their robot will find me too. ~_^

They claim they will give me a DVD in return for the follow-up post.

I have to say the ratings on ANN are a bit mixed.

There were 260 titles in that list! Prepare to be inundated.

And you leave your journal unlocked.

They are sending me my loot until after the thing officially comes out so I won't really be able to add to the grass roots campaign if they were serious about that.

Is this your way of informing them? Well, I guess if you are being watched, you might as well expect them to.

They have viewed and OKed my post. I am wondering how often they are going to check that I haven't messed about with their press release adding comments on Piper Perabo who I believe I loathe.

After I get my fee I wull open up the one after.
