Jumping on the Bandwagon

Following Suit (camwyn)...

I don't like yaoi. I will almost always avoid it, particularly if it is graphic. There are two reasons for this.

  1. The relationship is  often manufactured from nothing

  2. Anal sex is a personal squick

But that's fiction.

Another thing about me is I like guys. I have always liked guys. If I am anything like my mother, who was flirting with hot young firemen almost on her death bed, I will like guys until the day I die.

A third thing about me is I am an atheist. I was an atheist before I was heterosexual and I expect to be an atheist to the end of my days. To me the Old Testament is just as much mythology as the Norse or Greek gods. In other words, I have the utmost faith there is no supreme being who gives a shit about what humans do.

The points I am leading up to:

  1. While boy on boy, or girl on girl, action does nothing for me, what consenting adults do to each other behind closed doors is nobody's business but their own.

  2. Ideally, children should be raised in two parent homes because you have to double-team the little monsters. The genders of those parents should not make a difference and in an America well supplied with public family washrooms it would not make a difference.

Hmmm...while I'm certainly not an atheist, it saddens me to see how much hate there is in this world. I have to wonder at the anger inside the man holding the sign.

*sighs*

On another note, it's been interesting to see other people expressing something that I've been saying for years - most shonen/shojo ai/yaoi/slash is unconvincing at best.

Come to think of it, this is the same reason I avoid graphic hetero pairings. I want to read about relationships and love, not random (and usually very unrealistic) sex just because the author thinks the couple is hot. If Inu-Yasha is going to turn to Koga for love after Kagome's death, I want the same attention paid to plot/character/relationship development as there should be if Inu-Yasha turned to Sango. Give me a reason to believe these characters like each other!

Now I'm ranting all over your journal. Sorry 'bout that...

*steps down from soapbox*

I am certainly not saying that people of faith are all fundamentalist hate mongers. The two most religious, in the sense of participating in their church and their brother is a pastor, guys I know are also two of the nicest and the antithesis of the guy in the photo so I know darn well that isn't so.

One of the reasons Inuyasha is my main fandom is the yaoi seems to be a smaller percentage (instead we have 1/2 Angel / 1/2 Kitsune / 1/2 Dragon Kagome) of the works. I attribute this to half the lead characters being female so it is harder to ignore them.

Oh, I know. We've been corresponding for over a year now (granted, it was via reviews or the occasional email response, but I felt like you'd given me a good view of your personality) and you've never struck me as being the type to tar everyone with the same brush. I just find the entire situation incredibly sad.

You know, I hadn't thought about that. Perhaps that's why the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom is so yaoi dominated - lack of strong female leads.

Hanyou/Youkai Kagome = blechhh. I've yet to read a fic where the author pulled this one off successfully. I suppose the main problem I have with it is the same problem I have with Youkai/Human Inu-Yasha (I'm talking about the Canon setting, not an A/U where everyone is human) - why should that character have to change who they fundamentally are in order to be accepted? Although, to be fair, I've seen a couple of convincing cases for Human Inu-Yasha...
